Mk3/4 fuel & temp voltage stabilizer

Postby chris1992 » Thu May 31, 2012 12:26 pm

Hi, I have a 1992 MK4 and the fuel & temp gauges have stopped working. I've narrowed the problem to the voltage stabilizer but dont seem to be able to find a replacement, does anyone have a semiconductor part number that Radio Spares/Maplin would recognise? the numbers on mine are 044269 81AB-C2A and 9204C I suspect 9204C is the useful number if I could find an equivalent component. If no joy does anyone know what voltage the stabilizer is set at? Thanks, Chris

Hi, I think I've fixed it, I drilled out the rivet holding the regulator, then replaced it with a new 9 volt regulator, the connections were the same, both gauges are working ( I think as they were?) I had about 1/4 tank of fuel when it stopped working and it's reading 1/4 now, the temp gauge seems a little low after running the engine for about 10mins , but the gauge moves. There is scope to adjust the needles so I guess I could "calibrate" them if I felt it necessary. The regulator I used was from Maplin, it's a TS 7809 CZ and the Maplin order No is N37CA 99p instead of Ford replacement £64 plus Vat. Hope this helps others.

Many thanks to chris1992 for the voltage stabilizer fix. Worked brilliantly and Maplins have only put the price up by 5p in over 12 months!!
