CV's Question

Transit connect mk1 138,000 miles and 18 years old.
How many of you guys have taken CV's apart on connects or other transits with non leaking boots and found hardly any grease inside of them.
Mine only started leaking slightly and i immediately..next day, opened it up to find about a egg cup of what i can only describe as black oil .
Wondering if i should be checking the others, perhaps catching them drying out,
I would be then; cleaning and refilling with grease.

I’ve never thought much about how much is in them but it’s probably the same as the amount of grease they used to put in front wheel bearings from new Back in the days of mk 1to mk3 transit and every vehicle with the same setup on first service we used to remove the outer bearing squirt in more grease into the void between the bearings and repack the outer bearing as a matter of course.
Maybe worth doing but you could end up fitting new boots all round.

Think it's more oil than grease in the inner pot joint because of the 3 sets of roller bearings and not the balls like the cv joint

I’ve only fitted them with the grease that comes with the new boot .
