speedlimit 60 kph

Postby Fordcamper1998 » Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:54 am

Hi,

I have a ford transit camper 1998 2,5 D 100 hp.
Sometimes it runs well but very regularly the speed is limited to 60 kph and has no power, accelleration very slowly.
With the 3 digit startester we found the codes 17, 33, 37 and 77. But i don't know where the codes stand for.

Fuelfilter already replaced, can somebody tell me about the codes so we can start to look for the cause of the problem?

a 1998 doesn't support blink codes or star testers so I am impressed you managed to get anything at all out of it.

the mk4 one starts and ends with the same code (12 from memory) and also doesn't go as high as 77. So I suspect those numbers are meaningless.

What does the engine management light do?

Hi above the battery is a connection point for the startester and we now also found a OBD connector hidden in the fusebox.

The engine management light is off, thats the strange fact.

We also managed to read the OBD and that also gives an error on the EGR valve position.

So we are thinking about replacing the EGR valve, it is still available as spare part.

The only "star tester" I have seen there there is for ABS diagnostics on early smileys - not engine.

EGR valves do not cause limp mode. (engine light on) and I have never heard of one sticking open (but I guess its possible). Nearly every smiley driving with lucas EPIC has an EGR fault recorded (and its normally the one way valve in the vacuum lines, or the electrical resistance in the track in my experience).

Put a blank plate in and see if it makes any difference before spending money

I will be wednesday busy with this.(need to drive 180 km's to reach it;-( )

Tested the EGR and indeed thats not the problem.
The oneway valve in the vacuumlines you mentioned where can i find it?

I have found the electrical drawings on the web, im electrician so i can check that, will take scope and multimeter with me. Any tips which connections are most suspicious?
